10 Elected Officials Track— Disaster Management Course "101" for Elected Officials
Familiarizes elected officials and senior appointed staff from county and local government with common issues that arise in a disaster. Participants attain a better understanding of legal authorities and responsibilities during disasters as outlined by the State of Kansas. Track covers definition of NIMS (National Incident Management System) and ICS (Incident Command System) and their importance to the disaster response process. Other select topics are what triggers PA (public assistance) and IS (individual assistance) for a community after a disaster and how to manage media coverage during a disaster.
Phase I
Classroom instruction will be on October 18, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., in the Cargill Learning Center Auditorium located at the Sedgwick County Zoo, 5555 Zoo Boulevard, Wichita, Kan.
Phase II
Participants have the option of taking a VIP tour of the collapse sites. This activity will start on the morning of October 19 and finish before noon, October 21. Participants will be advised of tour details on the day of classroom instruction of Phase I.
Participation is limited. There is no fee to register. Participants must complete and submit the registration form.
