3 Fire Rescue Track
Technician. Prepares fire service responders with specialty rescue responsibilities to safely operate in the dangerous conditions inherent in a disaster site. Hands–on selected topics include practical training in structural shoring, concrete cutting, metal cutting, heavy rigging and crane operations, confined–space operations, breaching and breaking, rope rescue operations, victim packaging, lift bags, equipment logistics, hazardous materials and safety, technical search tools (robotics), extrication, live site operations.
Manager. Prepares fire service sector officers with management responsibilities in operational command procedures, personnel accountability, resource allocation, and hot zone management when conducting rescue operations at a heavily damaged disaster site.
Phase I
Practical skill training instruction will be in Wichita for three and one–half days, October 15–17, 8 a.m.–5:30 p.m., and October 18, 8 a.m.–noon. Participants will exercise the full range of activities for rescue operation at a disaster site. Participants will be advised of the exact training site in letters of confirmation, following submission of the registration form in this brochure.
Phase II
Deployment to mass casualty/structural collapse simulation will start on the morning of October 19 and finish before noon, October 21. Execution will be conducted during 12-hour shifts. Participants will be advised of location of collapse sites and dates and times to report for duty on the first day of training instruction of Phase I.
Participation is limited. There is no fee to register. Participants must complete and submit the registration form.
Note. All personnel in this track are required to bring their own personal protective equipment (at a minimum safety shoes, eye protection, and gloves).
