7a Surge Capacity

Prepares multidisciplinary hospital health providers in mechanics of surge response (facility assessment for surge, identifying "flat spaces," basic cache for pharmaceuticals, equipment and supplies), home care, alternate care sites and standards, and other topics.

Phase I

Classroom instruction will be October 15, 8 a.m.–noon, at Wesley Medical Center, 550 N. Hillside, Wichita, Kan., in the Cessna Conference Center.

Accreditation. This activity has been approved for up to 4 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s), up to 4 hours CNE credit, and up to 4 hours EMS credit. (Please see Accreditation.) Specific objectives and timed agendas will follow in confirmation letters to participants.

Phase II

Participants have the option of taking a VIP tour of the mass casualty/collapse structure simulation. This activity will start on the morning of October 19 and finish before noon, October 21. Participants will be advised of tour details on the day of classroom instruction of Phase I.

Participation is limited. There is no fee to register. Participants must complete and submit the registration form.

7b Burn Patients

Prepares multidisciplinary hospital health providers in priorities of care for burn patients, inhalation injury, fluid resuscitation, characteristics of burns, American Burn Association referral criteria, procedure for transfer and transport, and other topics.

Phase I

Classroom instruction will be on October 15, 1–5 p.m., at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis campus, 929 N. St. Francis, Wichita, Kan.. in the north end of the hospital cafeteria.

7c Toxicology/Radiology Exposures

Prepares multidisciplinary hospital health providers in chemical, radiological and toxicological exposures from patient contact, appropriate protection protocols in a contaminated environment, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and other topics.

Classroom instruction will be October 15, 1–5 p.m., in the Wesley Medical Center, 550 N. Hillside, Wichita, Kan., in the Cessna Conference Center.

7d Pediatric Disaster Life Support (PDLS)

This is a train the trainer course. Prepares multidisciplinary hospital health providers in general principles of pediatric disaster care (triage assessment, stabilization, and resuscitation), the psychological impact of disaster, needed equipment, injury to children, pediatric disaster drills, and other topics. This course will be taught by health providers from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Emergency Medical Services for Children. Official certificates will be issued.

Phase I

Classroom instruction will be October 16 & 17, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., at Wesley Medical Center, 550 N. Hillside, Wichita, Kan. in the Cessna Conference Center.

Accreditation. This activity has been approved for up to 14 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s), up to 14 hours CNE credit, and up to 14 hours EMS credit. (Please see Accreditation.) Specific objectives and timed agendas will follow in confirmation letters to participants.

Phase II

7e Advanced HAZMAT Life Support (AHLS)

Prepares multidisciplinary health providers in rapid assessment of HAZMAT patients, recognition of toxic syndromes, application of poisoning treatment paradigm, identification and administration of specific antidotes. The course will be taught by a board–certified toxicologist and physician and by AHLS verified instructors. Course is offered in collaboration with the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology and was developed by the Arizona Emergency Medicine Research Center, a Center of Excellence at The University of Arizona College of Medicine. Participants will receive a four–year verification status upon successful completion of the course.

Phase I

Classroom instruction will be October 16 & 17, 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., at the Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis campus, 929 N. St. Francis, Wichita, Kan. in the north end of the hospital cafeteria.

Accreditation. This activity has been approved for up to 24.25 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) (8.0 Study Material & 16.25 Provider Course), up to 24 contact hours (2.4 CEUs) and assigned ACPE universal program number 003–999–03–051–C04, up to 16.25 hours of advanced and 6.5 hours of educator continuing medical education for EMS, and approved by The American College of Emergency Physicians for 23 hours of ACEP Category I credit. (Please see Accreditation.) Specific objectives and timed agendas will follow in confirmation letters to participants.
