Registration & Fees

There is no fee to register for most tracks, with the exception of two subtracks in the Hospital Track: 7d PDLS and 7e AHLS, which both have a fee of $150.

Important Information for Participants

Accreditation

All participants are required to sign attendance rosters at the beginning of each day. A certificate of completion will be provided to all participants based on documentation of actual attendance time, meeting minimum attendance requirements specific to the activity, and payment in full (Hospital subtracks of PDSL and AHLS only). For these two subtracks, if you are not paid in full, your certificate will be mailed to you upon receipt of payment

Physicians

The KU Medical Center Office of Continuing Medical Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The KU Medical Center Office of Continuing Medical Education designates this educational activity for a maximum of 74 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. TheDisaster Medicine Track is designated for a maximum of 48 hours AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. (This includes a maximum of 24 classroom hours and a maximum of 24 hours at a deployment site.) The University of Arizona College of Medicine at the Arizona Health Sciences Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Arizona College of Medicine at the Arizona Health Sciences Center designates TheAdvanced HAZMAT Life Support Subtrack for a maximum of 24.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)tm (8.0 Study Material & 16.25 Provider Course). Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses

Up to 38 contact hours will be awarded to all individuals based on documentation of actual attendance time, meeting minimum attendance requirements specific to the activity, and payment in full, if applicable.

The University of Kansas School of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

The Surge Capacity Subtrack is accredited for 4 contact hours; theBurn Patients Subtrack is accredited for 4 contact hours; theToxicology/Radiology Exposures Subtrack is accredited for 4 contact hours; thePediatric Disaster Life Support (PDLS) Subtrack is accredited for 14 contact hours; thePublic Health Track is accredited for 12 contact hours.

Pharmacists ACPE

The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy is approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmaceutical education. Those reading the course manuals, successfully completing pre- and post-tests (80% accuracy), attending all sessions, and completing the evaluation will be awarded full credit. TheAdvanced HAZMAT Life Support Subtrack is awarded 24 contact hours (2.4 CEUs) and assigned ACPE universal program number 003-999-03-051-C04.

EMS

KU Medical Center’s Eastern Kansas Area Health Education Center is an approved program provider by the Kansas Board of EMS. Provider number is PP-4040. TheDisaster Medicine Specialist Track is approved for up to 48 hours of continuing education credit. (This includes a maximum of 24 classroom hours and a maximum of 24 hours at a deployment site.) TheEMS Track is approved for up to 17 hours of continuing education credit. This includes 14 hours of classroom training and up to 3 hours for those participating at a deployment site. TheSurge Capacity Subtrack is approved for 4 hours of continuing education credit; theBurn Patients Subtrack is approved for 4 hours of continuing education credit; theToxicology/Radiology Exposures Subtrack is approved for 4 hours of continuing education credit; thePediatric Disaster Life Support (PDLS) Subtrack is approved for 14 hours of continuing education credit.

The Advanced HAZMAT Life Support Subtrack is approved by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medicine Services (CECBEMS) for 16.25 hours of advanced and 6.5 hours of educator continuing medical education. CECBEMS is an organization established to develop and implement policies to standardize the review and approval of EMS continuing education activities. The sponsoring organizations of CECBEMS are the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, the American College of Emergency Physicians, National Association of Emergency Medical Services Physicians, National Association of State Emergency Medical Services Directors, National Council of State Emergency Medical Services Training Coordinators, and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

Approved by The American College of Emergency Physicians for 23 hours of ACEP Category I credit.

Allied health, fire service personnel, law enforcement officers, and other professions

Allied health, fire service personnel, law enforcement officers, and other professions that desire continuing education credit will receive a certificate of attendance that will list the training track in which a participant was registered with topics and continuing education hours for that track. The certificate may be submitted for re-licensure.

Planning Committee

The training event was collaboratively planned and developed by representatives from KU Medical Center, The Adjutant General’s Department, Kansas Highway Patrol, 19 counties that comprise the Kansas South Central Homeland Security Steering Committee, Sedgwick County, the City of Wichita, and Rescue Training Associates, Inc. Multidisciplinary professionals who have devoted enormous time and effort to ensure the success of this program include fire services, law enforcement, emergency management, public safety, medicine, preventive medicine, nursing, public health, emergency medical services, hospital administration, and university administration.

Faculty

Training will be conducted by more than 80 faculty from both Rescue Training Associates (RTA) and other organizations who represent local, regional and national professions. The faculty team consists of active firefighters, EMT/paramedic personnel, hazardous materials technicians/specialists, National Fire Academy (NFA) and Emergency Management Institute (EMI) instructors, former military personnel, health professionals, and manufacturer equipment trainers. The team’s knowledge is based on extensive experience in both civilian disaster management and specialized federal chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) emergency response, hospital surge, burn treatment, toxicology/radiology, pediatric disaster life support, advanced HAZMAT life support, epidemiology, public health, EMS triage and transport. A list of instructors for each track will be provided to participants on the first day of class.

Proof of Liability Coverage

All participants operating within a collapse zone during the 48–hour deployment of Phase II assume all risk of injury and are required to sign the release statement on the registration page of this brochure. In addition, participants must fax a copy of their agency’s proof of liability insurance to KU Medical Center, Continuing Education (fax: 913-588-4486, attention Marta Skalacki) prior to gaining access to any of the collapse sites. Agencies wishing to utilize RTA’s liability insurance must provide contact information and pay all required fees. Contact Marta Skalacki at 913-588-4543 for more information. If you have any doubts about your ability to participate in this drill, consultation with your physician is strongly encouraged.

Overtime or Backfill

For South Central Kansas Regional professions of fire services, law enforcement, EMS, approximately $125 per individual is available for overtime or backfill for Phase I only of this training event. Hospitality & Reception

Rescue Training Associates (RTA) and its vendors will host a day-long event briefing and hospitality reception October 18 at the Hyatt Regency Wichita at 400 Waterman, Wichita, Kan. All participants and volunteers are invited to attend. Details will be mailed to participants after they register.
