8 Media & Public Information Officers (PIO) Track

Prepares participants how to anticipate and respond to media needs in a crisis, establish a joint information center, work in an Emergency Operations Center, and work within the Incident Command structure. Participants will learn basic crisis communication principles to follow when developing key messages for release to the public. There will be a mock news conference based on a disaster scenario.

Phase I

Classroom instruction will be October 17, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., at the Hyatt Regency Wichita, 400 Waterman, Wichita, Kan.

Phase II

Deployment to collapse sites will start on the morning of October 19 and finish before noon, October 21. Execution will be conducted in 8-hour shifts.

Participation is limited. There is no fee to register. Participants must complete and submit the registration form.
