6 Regional EMS Disaster Medicine Management & Procedures Track

Presents concepts and information to EMS team members to integrate the operational components of shifting from routine calls to mass casualty calls, predetermined initial action plans in mass casualty incidents, triage, treatment, transportation, medical communications, staging for EMS resources, local, regional and state protocols, MERGe team, EMS functions and command structure, multiple agency response, CBRNE hazards, EMED system equipment and logistics, surge capacity, alternate care sites and standards, communication of public information, Communication on Wheels (COW) patient tracking, types of patient injuries, and other topics.

Phase I

Classroom instruction will be two full days, October 16–17, 9 a.m.–5:30 p.m., at KU School of Medicine, Wichita campus, 1010 N. Kansas, Wichita, Kan. Classroom hours: up to 14 EMS hours.

Phase II

Deployment to collapse sites will start on the morning of October 19. Execution will entail 3 hours. Deployment hours: up to 3 EMS hours.

Accreditation. This activity has been approved for up to 17 hours EMS credit. (Please see Accreditation.) Specific objectives and timed agendas will follow in confirmation letters to participants.

Participation is limited. There is no fee to register. Participants must complete and submit the registration form.
